Utah wool industry outlook grows brighter in 1955 report

Utah's 1955 wool production reached 11.732 million pounds grease weight, down 6 percent from 1954 and 7 percent from the 1944 53 average. About 1.235 million sheep were shorn, down 5 percent from 1954 and 10 percent below the 10 year average. The 1955 lamb crop was 960,000 head, the fourth lowest on record. Despite lower output, optimism grows as the government wool program may boost prices and promotion efforts, funded by a cent a pound deduction.
