Francis Willes Dies of Heart Attack at Vernal Store
Francis Willes 42 of Vernal died Friday after a fatal heart attack at the Corner Store. Eye witness Urary Brown reported Willes entered the cooler with beef, collapsed beside a shelf, a doctor pronouncing him dead. Funeral services were held Monday noon at Vernal Second Ward chapel under Ray Cundick of the bishopric.

Davis Dog Poisoner Endangers Lives of Children and Livestock

County Promises Pull Efforts On Road Projects
At a regular county commissioners meeting Curt Dudley urged road crews and the surveyor to rework the Todd dugway and revamp the road. The group agreed to devote full effort to the Diamond Mountain road project between Vernal and Brush Creek. William Farnsworth proposed hiring a man to operate the weed spraying truck and to attend the weed school at USAC in Logan in January 2027. The commissioners approved the plan and Lon Logan of the Indian Service asked them to sign the contract for an Indian road project after work is completed.

County Hospital Raises Room Rates Effective February One
Ainish County hospital will raise room rates starting February 1, administrator Erland Preece announced. Wards will go from 740 to 900 dollars per day, semi private rooms from 9.60 to 10.50, and private rooms from 12.00 to 13.50 per day. The board says the rise, partly to adjust female staff salaries, is needed to attract and retain specialized personnel and brings rates closer to state averages not seen since 1949.
