Uintah Stake Quarterly Conference Schedule Released

The Uintah Stake announces its regular quarterly conference. Sessions will be held at the Stake Tabernacle with a 7 30 p m Saturday session. The public is invited to attend the general convention and Sunday sessions at 10 am and 2 pm. A musical festival is planned for Sunday evening. Over fifty scouters of Uintah district BSA gathered at Uintah High School Wednesday for a banquet hosted by Vera Calder. AA Anderson of Provo praised Uintah’s progress, stressing scouting helps youth where other agencies fail, as leaders and star scouts were featured.

Ashley National Forest Fish Planting Report of 1932

The Whiterocks fire hatched report for 1932 notes 978600 rainbow trout ranging 2 to 6 inches were planted in Duchesne and Uintah counties. Duchesne received about 268000 trout with 10000 for Uintah, mainly in Ashley National Forest waters and Lake Fork Creek watershed. Uintah County plantings concentrated in Ashley Creek Big Brush Creek Trancig Creek Moon Lake and several Uintah streams, with transport challenges and local clubs aiding the effort.

Oldest Man in Uintah Basin Buried Thurs

Naples Utah Special Services held January 19 for Edward John Starkie at the Naples ward chapel after his death January 16 at his daughter's home. Burial at Verne Cemetery followed a large service led by LeVell Manwaring with music from grandchildren and local singers. Starkie survived by wife Vera and many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. born 1843 in England, he came to the U.S. in 1878 and settled in Utah joining his Naples homestead with his wife Lora Jacobson.

Poisoned dog mauls boy scout as he aids pet

Ray Evans fourteen, a Boy Scout, tried to save his poisoned dog after school Monday. The dog bit his hand with several tooth marks before dying, while precautions were taken to prevent infection from poison and bacteria.

Utah Ratifies Twentieth Amendment Speedily

The Utah legislature ratified the twentyeth or lame duck amendment to the constitution on Monday and sent it to Washington. The vote was unanimous with three senators voting no in the Senate W D Candland Paul H Hunt and George Jefferson. The move echoes Missouri and Georgia actions while Nevada and Massachusetts delayed final action. If all states ratify the amendment the president will be inaugurated January 30 instead of March 4.

Lydia Hartle Cook 74 widow of William Cook died at her daughter’s home after a stroke. Funeral under Second Ward bishopric will be at the ward chapel Friday at 1:20 pm. Verna City Volunteer Fire Department Chief H B Millecam notes a pattern with the last six fires all occurring on the 6th. Miss La Rose Stewart Dies After Appendicitis Operation

Miss La Rose Stewart of Jensen died Monday afternoon during an appendectomy at Campbell hospital in Vernal after a ruptured appendix. She was born September 20 1916 at Jensen and educated there, later attending high school in Price. She is survived by her parents Hugh and Varda Meeks Stewart two sisters Zora Tiatta of Price and Hula S one brother Calvin seven and grandparents Mr and Mrs H Meeks of Jensen.

Jack Cook Receives State FFA Honor at Roosevelt High

Jack Cook, son of Mr and Mrs John J Cook, won a gold medal from the State Park Bureau for agricultural activities and project work. A Roosevelt High School assembly honored him with speeches by Walter Atwood and a letter from Spokane City.
