Christmas in Britain brings a green holiday with mild weather and unusual warmth. Weather reports note sun, clear skies, and temperatures high for the season as rural markets show rising fruit blooms and turkeys flood the market, yet many shoppers cannot afford poultry.
County Clerk records show 209 applicants by Wednesday evening for work on the Jensen bridge. The state road commission and board of county commissioners will rotate crews of about 15 workers from districts, with 10 hour days for three days per shift. registrations remain open by letter and postmasters notified.
On Sunday the infant son of Mr and Mrs Virgil Robb died at the home of its grandparents Mr and Mrs George Walkup near Whiterocks Ranger Station. The child was buried at Roosevelt Tuesday. Mr Walkup is a forest ranger. Ther a and Fern, daughters of Mr and Mrs Walkup, are improving from flu and pneumonia at Roosevelt hospital. Supervisor J O Stewart reported at the station Tuesday. On Wednesday Mrs Walkup was taken to the same hospital with pneumonia, leaving another sick child in care of Mr Walkup and Mrs Robb.
Fire at Ray Siddoway’s residence Monday shortly after 10 30 a m caused minor damage before local firefighters quickly controlled the blaze. A three quarter mile run by the engine helped contain it as Fire Chief H B Miltecam commends the telephone company for fast alerts and says past fires were minimized. Secretary John Milburn notes plans for the annual Dire mans ball in the near future.
Margaret recalls early struggles of settling in Ashley Valley Idaho in the 1880s. She describes farming timber work and building houses with her husband Dan Price, living in a tent, fearing Indian attacks, finding help from neighbors the Birds, and welcoming a first child in spring 1884 as they established a home with sheds and corrals amid harsh pioneer conditions.
Uintah juniors faced Roosevelt in a decisive win framed as the best team performance this season. Wiscombe led Uintah with 24 points while Wardle added 16 as Lyle Anderson topped Roosevelt with 15. final score 60 to 32. Tuchesne also fell to Mt. Compong 14 to 34. Mt. Emmons to host Uintah next Friday.
Funeral services were held today at 12:30 in the Naples ward chapel for EB J Starkey a well known Ashley Valley pioneer who died at his daughter Mrs Albert Goodrich of Naples ward residence. Daughters Mrs Byron Cyxrrch and others survive. bishopric directed the rites.
A double wedding occurred Saturday January 14 in Ouray and Whiterocks. Janus LaRose son of Fred LaRose and Lena Tabbee of Ouray wed. Eugene Larose son of Leonard LaRose and Rosella Montes of Whiterocks wed. County Clerk L William Carlstrom issued licenses. Justice C S Carter officiated the late ceremony.
Albert Hardy's fifteen year old daughter Al beta suffered a head injury when she was thrown from a horse at Manila Alberta. Supervisor J Stewart of Ashjrey National Forest reported she lost consciousness and remained so into Tuesday before new word on her condition Wednesday.
Chauncy Witbeck, manager of Witbeck Funeral Home, returned from Salt Lake City with a new hearse for the local firm. The vehicle may serve as an ambulance, powered by an eight cylinder Cadillac engine and featuring side loading. It is a large hearse with a 141 inch wheelbase and a blue black design, one of only three in the state.
County Relief Work Chairman R C Cooper reports that funds from the state relief committee are expected soon for January to meet Uintah county needs. He says the committee has already spent 17500 at the year’s start and many calls have been handled pending the coming funds.
Rex Christ signs lease for a building shop from Sirs Strobel in CTIDAR city. The agreement involves Goodear as the tenant and outlines terms of occupancy and duration. The transaction reflects local business activity and property use.
The Uintah Stake MIA hosts its annual Gold and Green Story Book Ball on Sunday January 27 at Imperial Hall. The narrative promises fairy tale pageantry with characters such as Goldilocks Red Riding Hood Cinderella and the Queen of Hearts as guests arrive to a rainbow colored palace setting.
The National Red Cross supplied garments including cloth for various outfits and hosiery to the Gintah chapter. Wilson Murray postmaster of Vernal learned Monday of the death of his half brother George Quincy Murray 64 in Salt Lake City from pneumonia. Born in Spanish Fork, he leaves two sons George Murray Salt Lake City and G Robert Murray Provo, two daughters Mrs Etrie Blackburn Vernal and Mrs Margaret Cole Salt Lake City, three sisters and four brothers plus two half brothers.
Uintah County officials attended the Utah commissioners convention in Salt Lake City. They backed budget reform, equitable land tax classifications, two yearly tax installments, and a graduated tax rebate scheme while urging court fee changes and reduced delinquent tax printing.
Vernal city council met at the United States Bank directors room to back county library improvements and study a new location and expanded space. They discussed consolidating city offices and services under one roof and possibly a city building. no decision on large gasoline storage tanks. Local residents and businesspeople filed protests against the application.
Uintah County Boy Scout Council announces a banquet on Wednesday January 25 at Uintah High School for council members and district scouters. Ray Duke reports expected attendance of at least 75 with Vera Calder leading the domestic science program and Naples ward contributing a musical segment.
County Clerk Lo William Carl strom reports Judge Abel Turner will convene a special term of the district court on February 3 at 2 PM. The session will cover law and motion and default matters.
Night school classes begin Monday at Tintah High School under Principal GB G Woble. Courses in English grammar literature and choir, plus physical education dancing clothing and fashion construction textiles foods foods and child development, agriculture poultry and livestock, wood metal leather rope and electricity, taught by volunteer staff led by Miss Ruth Hart Miss Monta Wentz Miss Guy Tife and others.
John Waters a farmer from Myton married Miss Maybell Campbell daughter of Thomas Campbell on a Saturday in January at the courthouse by stica Carter.
