Ashley National Forest to get new supervisor and chief
Gilbert B. Doll, current Ashley National Forest supervisor, moves to Ogden as assistant chief of the water recreation and lands division in the Intermountain Region. Andrew T. McConkie, new Ashley supervisor, comes from Bridger National Forest. The transfers take effect January 26. Both are longtime foresters and Society of American Foresters members.

Melvin Cotner 41 formerly of Vernal and Rangely reflects on 1957 ending as his Rangely home burns. Furniture and belongings are lost while his wife and three children escape unharmed. Cotner had earlier injuries from a gunshot wound and his son LeRoy 12 recently released from hospital after burns from cleaning gasoline parts.

Funeral Services Honor Pioneer Fred A Feltch Sr
Funeral services are set for 2:00 PM today at the Ashley Ward LDS chapel for Fred A Feltch Sr 90 who died Monday at 7:30 AM in the Wilford Bastian rest home. Burial will be in Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery. He was born October 9 1867 in Clarinda Iowa to Isaac Turner and Maria Pierce Feltch. He married Katherine Leahy June 18 1902 in Central City Colorado and lived in Fraser Colorado where he served as County Commissioner and top dealer there. He moved to Vernal and operated the first stage line between Vernal and Craig Colorado and owned a farm in Ashley Ward. He built roads on Brush Creek Mountain and worked in trucking and a saw mill. He died of age related causes. Survivors include sons Francis Clark and Fred Jr in Vernal Pierce in Provo daughter Alice Feligh in Salt Lake seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. brothers Charles P Rosemead California and Frank T Rockland Idaho, sister Mia Weulah M Cilkins Denver.

C Max Caldwell honored at University of Utah ceremony on December 19 with a Distinguished Military Graduate award and Regular Army Commission. He led ROTC as Cadet Colonel, commanded the battalion, and earned a business degree blending marketing auditing and management. He and wife Bonnie Lew Adamson expect assignment to Fort Knox Kentucky early next year. Caldwell is Utah Uintah graduate class of 1951 active in sports and clubs, with LDS Church service noted.

Funeral services for Mrs Juliette Perry Caldwell were held at the Maeser First Ward LDS chapel with Bishop Ward Evans officiating. The service included prayers, musical numbers, and tributes by family and church members. Burial followed at Maeser Fairview Cemetery. she was born October 17, 1868 in Millville and survived by 11 children, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
