Watkins Clyde urge funds for river work to aid unemployment

Vernal Plans Special City Improvements and Street Signs

Vernal City Council discussed wide ranging improvement plans including a $1,500 street sign project aided by Vernal Jaycees to replace about 180 signs with steel signs on steel poles. A dog pound will be built at the sewage plant site, and renovations include a new rest room, repaired garage with insulation and new doors, plus curb gutter sidewalk and street upgrades with early contact to city office.

Vernal Express editor William Wallis was elected president of the Utah State Press Association at the 60th annual convention. The paper won 1957 awards for Community Leadership and Best News Story. Local Sites Eyed For Locations of New State Parks

Chet Olsen, director of Utah State Park and Recreation, will visit Vernal Tuesday to scout sites for potential state parks. The Vernal Chamber of Commerce session approved proposals to shift post office charges to a pay-as-you-go basis and raise third class mail to first class rates. Larry Phillips of the Dinosaur National Monument committee announced the new visitor center is slated for dedication on June 1 or June 8.

Vaccine shortage spurs repeat polio clinic turnout

Because of high interest in last week’s polio clinic, county nurses ran short of vaccine. Consequently another clinic is scheduled to ensure all residents receive the vaccine.

Clinic Schedule and Final Winter Shot Event

A vaccination clinic is set for Monday March 17 at 6 00 pm for second and third doses. First time recipients may attend but must return for their second shot at the doctor’s office. The county indicates this will be the last clinic until next winter.
