Uintah High Starts League With Two Big Wins Over Roosevelt
Uintah High School defeated Roosevelt High in two decisive road and home games, 20 to 6 on Friday and 67 to 12 on Saturday, as coach Glenn C Anderson’s five man defense limited Roosevelt’s scoring. McCurdy Eaton and Cal Davis led Uintah’s offense, while Roosevelt tired after a single late push, with Uintah taking a large lead into the second half. The team prepares for the Round Robin tournament set for February 25-27 in Castle Dale, with Vernal and Castle Dale hosting duties noted.

Farm bureau meeting initiates plans to form a state alfalfa seed growers association. A committee led by FY Lundberg will draft the plan for a Uintah Basin cooperative with aim to grade seed to raise quality and price, supporting Utah's large share of national production.
Farmers Metings Last Week Enjoyed by Entire County
Enthusiastic sessions under the farm bureau umbrella spanned Uintah Basin towns February 16 through 20. Utah State Farm Bureau vice president M P Brown and Agriculture Commissioner Harden Bennion spoke on cooperation and collective bargaining while county residents praised the farm bureau’s aims and enjoyed evenings of refreshments and social events.

Atwood Dies in Vernal From Flu Attack

One Day Mail Service for Uintah Basin Likely
The postal service may inaugurate one day mail between Salt Lake and Uintah Basin if road conditions between Price and Vernal allow and coal costs stay manageable. The plan would deliver Vernal by eight to nine p m, with first class mail and papers at night and other classes next morning, boosting business and evening newspaper reads.

Funeral services held Sunday for Mary Sturgeon
Funeral services characterized by simplicity were held in the Vernal Second ward chapel for Mrs Mary Sturgeon on Sunday February 21. The service featured ward choir, speakers from the Reorganized Church and Sanday School, and a belief in resurrection. Interment was at Maeser cemetery. Mrs Sturgeon, born January 1 1858 in Salt Lake City, was a longtime Vernal resident and mother of five.

Farmers Roundup Ends With Friday Meeting at Second Ward
The final farmers meeting of the Ulatsh Basin was held in the Second Ward chapel on Friday at one. The Junior Farm Bureau led by Harold Lundell of the Smith Hughes program hosted the event with a vocal quartet from the Senior class. Heed McConkle spoke on the organization and purpose of the Junior Farm Bureau, noting Uintah County’s unit is the only one in Utah and perhaps the country. Theodore Johnson, Uintah County Farm Bureau president, reported notable progress in enrollment and farmer support, with further expansion anticipated. commissioner Harden Bennion was listed as a source of continued oversight.
