Uncle Billy Wall Basin Pioneer Rites Mark Deceased’s 79th Year

William Madison Wall known as Uncle Billy Wall, a pioneer of Basin and a long-time Vernal resident, died at 79. The Feb services in Vernal First Ward were led by Bishop Calder with eulogies from Bishop John Eaton and former Bishop Joseph McKee. Survived by thirteen children across multiple states, his life recalled Black Hawk War era roots and settlement in Glines Ward before moving to Vernal. Interment followed at Vernal Cemetery.

Uintah County Board cuts term by two weeks

At a Uintah County School Board meeting the term was shortened by two weeks. High school runs eight and a half months while grade schools run seven and a half. Delegates urged full term despite an estimated $18 000 to $19 600 deficit.

Local U and Marine Rifle Expert Qualifies at Camp Lewis

Ellie Fils of Vernal Utah earned expert rifleman status with the Marine Corps after scoring bulls eyes at 200 to 600 yards during target practice at Camp Lewis Washington. Born in Vernal and aged 25, he enlisted in 1923 in Portland Oregon and served aboard the USS Mississippi during Pacific fleet maneuvers near the Panama Canal area.

Last Respects Paid Oscar F Beebe At Vernal

Funeral services for Oscar F Beebe 64 who died Wednesday evening were held in the Vernal Second Ward chapel. Speakers praised his honesty, business fairness, and public service as sheriff of Emery County. He was born in Payson in 1842 and later settled in Utah, living in Emery, Castle Dale, Green River, and Vernal where he had varied ventures. He is survived by his widow and six children.

County Commissioners Meet At Regular Monthly Session In Vernal

Uintah county commissioners met at the county courthouse in Vernal on a Saturday session. Mem Hatch and Sidney Mormon sought aid to construct bridges across Brush Creek near the junction of Lig and Little Brush creek. A Durar Valley delegation urged $1000 for road work on a Star malt route from C M Lareen ranch on the Duchesne river to Le ote then south to Onray W L. Fiatcher claimed they would receive funds allotted to the district. At present time funds went to Hanciett and Ouray for the territory.

Permit to Run Truck Line to Vernal Asked

Applications for permission to operate a truck line from Salt Lake to Vernal were filed at the public utilities commission by Dennis Bowthorpe of Murray RF DD.
