Vernal oil worker among 4 killed in Emery crash
A Vernal oil worker was among four people killed when two cars collided west of Green River in Emery County Sunday night. James Hall Cowley, 34, of Vernal, was employed by Equity Oil and died at the Price hospital. Also killed were Bob Barta, 31, of Montpelier, and Margaret Whitton Redd, 26, of Monticello, with seven others injured. Funeral services for Cowley were set for Vernal and Kemmerer, Wyo. Additional services will be in Vernal at the De Pauw Funeral Home. Survivors include his widow Amelia Gunther Cowley, of Vernal, his mother Mrs. Cowley of Salt Lake City, and three children. Uintah District to solicit bids for a new Uintah High School in Salt Lake City designs by Lorenzo Young. Three bid categories electrical heating and plumbing and general contracting due March 18 at 7 30 pm local time. Plans available from Mr Young at Continental Bank Building. Building slated to start around April 1 and be ready for fall 1955.

Unemployment Peak Reached in Uintah Basin Declines
Unemployment probably peaked this week in Uintah Basin and began to drop says Spencer C Heiner manager of the Local employment security office. The week ending showed 161 unemployment insurance claims vs 180 prior, with 27 initial claims down from 32. About 378 workers seek jobs through the office and 75 to 80 percent of unemployed are registered. Employers urged to list openings while labor supply remains large and quality good as business improves.
