Alarm over milk price outlook sparks Utah dairy worry
Utah dairy leaders warn of a worsening milk price outlook as cow numbers fall and labor shifts to industry. Merrill Warnick, Utah Dairy federation president, cites prices dropping from 1.20 to 87 cents per gallon since January 1948 and urges action to prevent a drastic production decline amid rising industrial wages. Emergency meetings are set nationwide, leading to a Chicago rally Feb 28 to March 2 to craft stabilization plans for milk and dairy products.
