Mountain Lions Slain After 20 Day Vernal Hunt
John Willis of the Vernal Gun club led a 20 day hunt with support from the Vernal Gun club and Utah State Fish and Game to protect big game and livestock in Greendale Warren and Jackson areas. Four mountain lions were killed or captured with two described as extra large. Willis, with trained hounds and guides, tracked the animals across canyons and crags, noting that lions prey on deer calves and young livestock. Willis claims his dogs reliably tree and corner lions, making dispatch easier, and cites his extensive experience and other hunts across Powell National Forest and surrounding forests.
