Ground Observer Corps Switches to 24 Hour Alert Meet Held
The Ground Observer Corps shifts to a 24 hour alert from part time. Lt. Cal Glenn F Mattson will lead a Utah meeting in Price on February 10 at pm for officials of Uintah Duchesne Carbon Emery Grand and San Juan counties. The move aims to boost effectiveness against low level air attack and align with US Air Force defense measures. The corps is a civilian volunteer network trained by the Air Force and linked to the Salt Lake City Filter Center.

Vernal Girls Win Snow Sculpture Honors at Snow Carnival
Vernal coeds Miss Jean Calder and Miss Pat Bruce led Del a Gamma and Phi Mu sororities to first and second place in the university snow sculpture contest. Calder, daughter of Mr and Mrs S Calder of Vernal, chaired Del a Gamma's entry and is a senior in speech education and a Utah marching band member. Bruce, daughter of Mr and Mrs Claude Bruce, took charge of Phi Mu's entry. she holds a Ford Scholarship and also marches in the band. Both Uintah High graduates and Snow Carnival featured skiing skating barrel races costume assembly and dance.

The Vernal Roping Club elected Ralph Walker president Don Holmes vice president and Bus Eldredge secretary at a recent meeting. Woodley Searle Julian Massey and Walter Bowden retired from leadership. The program featured the Utah Sviathons Orchestra and Uintah High School Concert Band with Beethoven Schubert and Wagner selections. A comic horn trio and Lenna Searle’s pet act provided levity before The Stars and Stripes Forever closed the program with thunderous applause.

Clifford Hatch Enters A F Training School
Clifford Hatch son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Watch of Vernal Utah has entered the United States Air Force Technical Training School at Sheppard Air Force Base near Wichita Falls Texas. He will receive intensive training to become an aircraft and engine mechanic and upon completion may be assigned to on the job experience with a major Air Force unit or enter advanced training. He entered the Air Force on August 1955.
