Ashley Forest Reports On Year of Mulitple Activities
Ashley National Forest records for 1958 show a dry year with more fires and stressed forage but also strong timber sales and active beetle control. About 12 million board feet of timber were felled valued near $407 per thousand, plus spruce bark beetle salvage handled by 70 workers. Logging, tree planting by youth groups, road construction, and insect control dominated a busy season as staff prepared for 1959.
