Air Force Boxcar Makes Emergency Landing at Vernal

An Air Force boxcar with a five crew touched down at Vernal airport after engine trouble over Roosevelt. Two-engined C110 feathered propeller to reduce drag and landed on one engine. On Monday a C118 arrived to take off supplies from Hill AFB to Kelly AFB. A third C119 landed with a new mouler for the disabled aircraft. The incident involved multiple aircraft and a repair operation.

Health Department Reports Gonorrhea Case in County

Roosevelt Plane Crash Kills Couple and Children

A Roosevelt family perished in a single engine plane crash in dense fog after takeoff. Dr Ray F. Lamb 31 and his wife Helen 37 plus their daughter Janet 7 and son Brank 8 died instantly. Two other sons were at home with relatives. The family had been visiting Utah for a funeral and were en route home to join relatives for Christmas when the tragedy occurred at Roosevelt airport. Authorities noted the fog as a contributing factor and plans to continue the investigation.

Two-Car Collision Near Jensen Causes $200 in Damage

A Sunday two car crash on Brush Creek road, six miles north of Jensen, caused about $200 damage. Duane Holmes, 27, of Vernal, driving a 1957 Ford, collided with Doyle Murray, 21, of Jensen, in a 1957 Ford pickup on a hill crest. Both drivers were cited for driving on the wrong side of the road.

Uintah High opens sports season with wins in basketball and wrestling

Uintah High School basketball lost 41 39 to Wasatch on Friday in a tight game after leading late in the final period. The Utes then defeated BYU High 60 40 on Saturday and edged Carlton 41 40 Monday. In wrestling Uintah beat DY High 95 5 in a dual meet Saturday and overwhelmed Carbon 44 0 Monday. The season continues with league action set for Friday January 2 against Tabland and a dual on January 19 against Strange.
