Winter ranges seen average for time of year
Vernal District livestock operators report winter range forage only average for the season. Principal winter range plants are sagebrush with little grasses due to eight inches of annual rainfall. Overuse reduces grass, water shortages persist, and stock ponds rely on winter snow and occasional rain. By mid December most cattle have moved onto winter ranges.
