Altamont Firm Low Bidder on Manila Road

L C Stevenson of Altamont was the apparent low bidder on a Ver nal Manila Highway section bid in Salt Lake City. The Altamont firm submitted 406 094 dollars, about 25 304 50 over the engineer estimate of 351 680 50. One other bid was submitted by Daggett County project s for Manila to Ashley Forest boundary.

Burglars Hit Area Stations and Sawmill Reports

Sheriff reports burglars struck multiple area businesses including a Conoco service station at Jengen Waa on Thursday night last week with about 100 dollars in merchandise missing. Entry was gained via an east side restroom vent. A Standard Saddle Tree metals sawmill on East Street also reported a theft of a storage battery and two large truck tires. Texaco bulk plant manager reports a 1000 gallon tank removed from near Bassett Springs on Crush Creek Mountain containing fuel for a construction camp.

Cart Creek Bridge Opens With Rites in Utah

Governor Clyde will cut the ribbon Friday at 11 am to open Cart Creek Bridge. State officials including Francia Feltch and Daggett Uintah county leaders attend the ceremony with Manila High School Band providing music. New Manager Named For Vernal Office

Duane C. Price named manager of the Vernal Employment Security office with a March 1963 start. Barc clay Gardner moves to Cedar City to head that office. Training for new managers includes Salt Lake City courses and on the job under the retiring administrator. Price, Vernal native and Navy veteran, has served six years with the department as a vocational counselor. Safe Yet Watched Dam Inspectors Say Cave-In Not Threatening

A Bureau of Reclamation earth dam expert reports the eight-foot cave-in on the Stelnaker Dam occurred away from the water area. Fred C. Walker leads the inspection with state and local officials aboard, noting possible minor abutment settlement and water seepage but no immediate danger. Dam Workers Ford River To Reach Work

Workers at Flaming Gorge dam alternate routes to Dutch John, crossing Green River at a two foot depth with large boulders. Vernal to Dutch John via Diamond Mountain saves about 40 miles but risks inclement weather and hazardous ford crossings.
