Lapoint Girl Dies From Auto Injuries
A Lapoint, Utah girl aged 2 1/2 died after being struck by a car on Lapoint street. The child, granddaughter of Charles Taylor, was playing near her grandfather’s home when she darted into the street and was hit. The back wheel ran over her leg causing a compound fracture and infection led to death after several days in hospital. Funeral services were held with family members and residents attending at the Lapoint ward chapel and cemetery.

City awards contract for White Way lighting on Main Street
At a special meeting the City awarded Clarence Silver Co of Salt Lake a 2700 bid to install White Way lighting on four blocks of Main Street. Twenty four units will be mounted on 23 foot poles and illuminate about 36000 lumens per block. Pacific equipment from General Electric and Westinghouse will be installed. power company upgrades and a hydro plant automatic system upgrade costing 5800 will follow under J C Anderson’s supervision.

Prominent Maeser Stockman Buried in Maeser
Phillip Cwitighem Stringham 56 died at home in Maeser after eight weeks illness. He suffered a broken neck from an accident near Meeker Cole on July 2 and died Wednesday. A stock raiser and noted sheep man, he donated land for the Maeser chapel. Survived by wife Ella Jane Wimmer and six daughters, two sons, seven sisters, seven brothers, and one grandson. Funeral held Wednesday at Maeser chapel.

Robert Marmmon plans to open a store in the Farrar Building at Main Street after the removal sale by Farrar Brothers Mercantile Company. The Farrars vacated, moved stock to Corner Store, and enlarged with new rooms. Lora Sannea says they will lease to Floberty Marimon of Whiterocks, offering groceries and notions. Duchesne Tunnel Unit Bids To Be Asked This Fall
Reclamation officials plan to advertise bids for the Duchesne tunnel unit of the Provo River project this fall to allow contractor ground work before winter. Engineer E O Larsen says the tunnel will add a new water supply and the bureau expects about four years for completion. Water diverted through the mountains will be stored in Ulsh Lake even if the reservoir is not enlarged.

Auto Injuries Fatal to Lila Hamaker in Head-on Crash
At 6 20 PM Friday a coupe driven by Glyndon Swain collided with a pickup driven by Earl Darling on highway 40 near Ft Duchesne. Lila Hamaker 18 of Bennett died Wednesday night at Ft Duchesne hospital from injuries including a broken leg and pelvic fractures. Darling and Hamaker were thrown from the car as Swain rear ended the pickup and pushed it into a bar pit. Swain, May Mullecam, and Zina Anderson were injured. Turner and Miss Hamaker were in the Swain car. Turner sustained minor injuries. Swain fractured a wrist. Mullecam a lacerated knee.

Rio Blanco County Pioneer Benta to Be Buried Thursday
Funeral services for John Robert Banta 76 will be held Thursday at 11 in the second ward chapel with Bishop John Halt officiating. Interment in Ver nal Memorial Park. Banta died Sunday in DeBeque Colorado of coronary thrombosis. He was born July 8 1883 in Tallahassee County and spent 52 years in Rio Blanco County as a farmer and stock raiser. He is survived by three sons Victor Cecil Robert and two daughters Mrs Bert Howell and Mrs William Armstrong and Mrs Thrima Burns, three sisters and nine grandchildren.

A Uintah county planning board committee sponsored a Tuesday trip to Ashley National Forest for farmers and home builders to learn timber marking and timber-cutting rules. The visit explained programs allowing residents to cut timber for personal use at minimal cost, supporting farm outbuildings and corrals with limited permits and some yardage from each 100 poles removed. The group, led by Wallace Calder, included agriculture and shop students under Lisyed Kapel and AM Chodrich, and stopped at Iron Springs Government Park and Oaks Park to preview storage projects aimed at increasing Nalley Valley water supply.
