UBIC Opens With Record Crowds In Uintah Basin

Opening day of the seventeenth Uintah Basin Industrial Convention and Indian Fair drew over eight thousand people to Fort Duchesne. C C Wright welcomed visitors and George E Thomas of the University of Utah delivered the keynote as the event showcased Indian exhibits, crafts, livestock, and horse pulling events. The three day session continues into Friday evening.

Inaugural Services for New Vernal Minster Wednesday

Inaugural services for Rev James W Hallwood as minister of Kingsbury Church will be held Wednesday at 7:30 pm in the Vernal Community House. Speakers include Rev Harry W Johnson of Boise and Craig Cole. Public invited to attend despite sectarian tensions. Clark B Newell of Utah Power and Light is on a two week vacation.

Tribute Paid to Naples Girl At Funeral Rites

A large congregation attended the Wednesday funeral for Rose Botcher 18 of Jensen daughter of Tispero and Julia Butcher. Speakers included H Grant West J T Wallace Johnson and Bishop Manwaring. music featured Earl Goodrich and others. Interment followed at Jensen cemetery.

Bea Stringham Appointed School Supervisor

Mrs Beatrice Stringham was employed by the Board of Education as primary supervisor for the district. She has years of experience teaching primary grades in various county schools succeeding Mrs Mary Hicks Noble. The United Pacific Insurance Company, represented by Leon P Christensen, was low bidder on bus insurance for Uintah schools with a premium of 96220 including bodily injury to children and property damage. First aid kits for buses were considered. purchases will be made on the superintendent’s recommendation. Miss Lorna Nickell was employed as office helper at Uintah High School. Metta Walker was hired as part time music instructor and did substitute work at Vernal Central School.

Millard Sets Mill Levy For Basin Plan

Millard County plans to levy funds to support the transmountain Great Basin project and basin development. Millard County Attorney Milton A Melville says funds must come from a government agency and opposes private levies, urging support for Utah’s broader development and state interests.

Rodeo Queens Nominated For Contest

The Verus Roder queen will be chosen at a pre rodeo dance at the Imperial Pavilion on Saturday September 2 announced by Howard L Caldwell. Entries have been received from Busm and Northwestern Colorado regions for the Verna Rodeo to be held September 2 and 3. Fort Duchesnd region will be represented by Maay Verholt a sophomore at Altiera High School and saxophonist in the school band. Ina Caldwell a junior at Alterra High is a prominent cheer leader and trombonist. Veda Bingham a Uintah high graduate and USAG student will be Vernals queen contestant. The parade of queens will finalize Saturday afternoon September 2.

Funeral for Mrs Emma Johnson Held on Tuesday

Funeral rites for Mrs Emma Johnson 78 were held Tuesday at 2 p m in the ward chapel. Officiating were Bishop Eaton and other church leaders with a chorus and local quartet performing hymns. Pallbearers included Merle and Floyd Allen Eldred and Vernil.
