Moon Lake Electric gains $1.75 million loan

Moon Lake Electric Association secures a $1,750,000 loan approved by the Rural Electrification Administration to fund 68 miles of 69,000 volt transmission lines from Van Wert Ohio to Lapoint and Talmage. Project includes substations, third phase lines, two diesel generators at Rangely plant, and system upgrades in eastern Utah. Two daughters, a sister, and grandchildren survive Herbert Tyzack. Burial at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Joe Kirkwood to Stage Vernal Golf Exhibition and Clinic

Renowned trick shot artist Joe Kirkwood will perform a nine hole exhibition at Vernal golf course, followed by a public clinic. The former champion of Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, he will display 250 yard drives, two balls, odd clubs, and other feats as three local club members join his act.

Crackdown on Residents with Foreign Plates Looms

Highway Patrol Sgt. Sammy Hatch announced a near term crackdown targeting resident drivers with out of state plates and licenses. The State tax commission defines a resident as anyone who comes to Utah to work or maintain a place of abode and thus must register and obtain a Utah driver’s license. As soon as a person resides, they are subject to the law, not after an 80 day grace period.

Vernal Rodeo Draws Big Crowd In Weekend Show

Ralph Preece called the Vernal Professional Rodeo a huge success as crowds packed the Fairgrounds each evening. Tickets covered expenses and a profit, with final figures due in five weeks. The event opened with a downtown parade led by Uintah High School band, while rodeo activities included bareback, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, and Brahma bull riding.

Funeral to be Friday for crash victim Roland Williams

Funeral services will be held Friday in Vernal for Roland Dale Williams 17 of Vernal who died Tuesday near Pinedale Wyoming when his car left the road likely due to driver fatigue. Services at 2 p m at Vernal First Ward chapel under Fifth Ward bishopric direction. Burial in Vernal Memorial Park. Also injured Reid Hullinger and Wayne York remained under observation after the crash with shock and opiate treatment.

Funeral Planned Saturday for Mrs Woolley Vernal notices funeral

Funeral services for Mrs H Walter Gladys Woolley 52 longtime Vernal resident will be held Saturday at 2 pm in Vernal Third ward chapel under Bishop Samuel B Woolley. Wake shows she died shortly after midnight Wednesday following surgery. She was born February 15 1903 in Gladesboro Carroll County Virginia to William Calvin and Clara Belle Bowman Marshall. She married Wilford Woodruff Caldwell January 22 1921. he died May 29 1931. Four children were born, two survive. She married H Walter Woolley August 7 1937. Continued on page 8.

New Curriculum Attracts Students As Back-To-School Trek

Shamrocks Battle Vernal Stars in Weekend Games

The Caldwell AM-Girl Shamrocks softball team returns to Vernal for a two night stand Friday and Saturday at Jaycee ball park. Star pitcher Wilma Frestone joins Saturday’s game as the Shamrocks face an all star ballot selected team and a second night bout against the first squad. Preliminaries feature Vernal Merchants girls teams in each night’s program.

Junior Buckaroos Show Off Horsemanship At Vernal Rodeo

Youth horsemanship display wowed crowds as the Junior Buckaroos rode precision drills through Vernal main street in black and white shirts with red white and black blankets. Instructors led the group of 27 youngsters this season after starting with seven girls three years ago. They camped five days at South Fork and plan a steak fry at Merkley’s Park with parents present.

Salt Lake Architects Express Interest in Planning New County Building

At the county commissioners meeting Salt Lake City architects Scott and Beecher expressed interest in drawing up plans for a new county building. Road work includes asphalt on Muddy Lane in Ashley this week, with more asphalting on the airport road and flood road at Willow Creek. Other planned improvements cover Jensen and west county roads, plus grading on outlying dirt roads. County agricultural agent Clair R. Acord reported grasshopper control and announced his impending retirement, commending his cooperative service.

Funeral for Amanda R. Williams Honors Faith and Kindness

Stories of Amanda R. Williams devotion to faith and kindness to youth were shared at her funeral for the 83 year old Uinita Basin resident. Services at Naptea Ward chapel with Bishop DeMar Duvall presiding, burial at Vernal Tanewa Mt. Williams died Wednesday at a Vernal sister’s home. Local officials noted 10,000 feet of ditch cut south of the Green River crossing and over four miles of right of way graded for the Associated Pipe and One Contractors project. Clean-up crews in Green River area work to restore land near the river as preparation continues for pipe installation.

High School Registration Fees and New Locks News

Registration for both High School and the new Junior High is set for next Wednesday Thursday and Friday with early announcements from principals. Uintah High opens at 7 am for seniors with juniors on Thursday and sophomores on Friday. Bus routes and counselor availability are detailed for student registration.

Special Deer Permits Go On Sale Monday

Special deer permits will go on sale Monday at the Courthouse in Vernal for the Daggett Clay Basin area. Five hundred permits will be issued on a first come first served basis by mail or in person per Utah Fish and Game Dept. Applicants must possess a big game license. Costs are $3.00 for residents and $5.00 for non residents. One animal must be antlerless in this five day post season hunt.
