Uintah County Delegation Seeks Defense Highway Expansion

A Uintah County delegation met the State Road Commission in Salt Lake City to discuss a defense highway from Kimball Junction to Denver and an added 2500 miles beyond the 40000 mile Interstate limit. Representatives from Vernal and Vernal visitors from Richfield attended. the plan links Denver to Highway 91 for metropolitan access.

Kiwanis Kids Day to Name Child King and Queen

The Vernal Kiwanis Club announces the fourth annual Kids Day on Saturday September 24 with a king from the boys and a queen from the girls five years old and under. Entrance is one dollar for a photograph and votes are sold for a penny at Rexall Quality and Vernal Drug stores. Proceeds fund prizes. contestants from Uintah Basin are invited to participate and attend.

Six Uintah Families Provide Homes For Indians During School Year

Six Uintah County families will foster Navajo and other Indian children during the upcoming school year. The program, organized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Relief Society, aims to provide social, educational, and religious training. Children will return home after the school year, with hopes for continued placements through college years at Brigham Young University. Families include Lawrence Caldwyell, Lapoint. Louis D. Roberts, Wiley Stewart, and Charles Alfred, Vernal. Forrest Goodrich and Darnall Goodrich, Tridel Poates. Roosevelt Stake has six homes. Moon Lake has two.

LDS Stake Conference Slated September 17 and 18

The Uintah Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints will hold its quarterly conference on Saturday and Sunday September 17 and 18. Pres. Archie Johnson announced the event noting that the visiting General Authority has not yet been named. Plans include dedicating the new Church seminary during the conference with education officials involved in the organizing.

Reverend Harry Gordon Resigns from Illinois Pastorship

Reverend Harry B. Gordon, who has served Kingsbury Congregational Church since July 1954, resigns to become pastor of the First Congregational Church of Dundee Illinois. A successor will be announced after church officers and Conference confer. A potluck honor event was held on the church lawn Saturday. Gordon's stature includes presidency of the Vernal Ministerial Association and chairmanship of the Community Coordinating Council. After September 1 the Gordons will reside at 411 West Main Street, Dundee, Illinois.

Vernal pool to close for Labor Day finish season

The Vernal City Swimming pool will close September 5 marking the end of the season for swimmers. Pool manager Louie Fife announced the Labor Day holiday is the last day for enjoying the cool water. Two Injured When Car Rolled Over Near Bonanza

Two women were hospitalized Tuesday after a car ran off Highway 40 east of Bonanza junction and rolled over at 10 30 p m. Mrs Mary E Cory 20 suffered severe head cuts and shock. her mother Mrs Ruby Cory 42 had severe cuts and bruises.
