Funeral for Centenarian Father of Vernalite Held At Springville
Moroni Miner aged 100 was honored at a Sunday funeral in Springville. Relatives and friends from across the state attended the Second Ward chapel service led by Earl B Sumsion. The program featured solos, tributes from church leaders, Indian veterans participation, and a birthday tribute read by Eva Crandall. Burial followed in City Cemetery.

Vernon Soft Ball crowds fill the Ulatah county fair grounds as Vernal Gun Club defeats Ashton 28-2 then 9-8 in two games. Nevies beat Ashton 10-5. Ashtons meet Naples Monday and Friday. Illumination suggested at court house grounds to extend play after dark. Under Jay Larson supervision Floyd Noel planted 12 thousand fingerling and 72 thousand fry trout in Uintah county. Locations included McKaoe craw Fast Park Big Brush creek and Ashley creek. Whiterocks hatchery enlargement will double capacity and boost fingerling and fry releases next years promising better fishing in most streams.

Don C Sparks Named Juvenile Judge in Eighth District
Don C Sparks of Salt Lake City was appointed by the juvenile court commission led by Governor Henry H Blood as judge of the juvenile court in the eighth district serving Duchesne and Uintah counties. The post, effective August 10, makes him coordinator for Duchesne and Uintah school districts to align home and community efforts with student interests. Sparks will split time between counties, with Roosevelt as his home base, and succeeds L Thorne. He is a 1932 Utah State Agricultural College graduate and has taught since, with relief work and child-problem study at USC Los Angeles.

Duffy Sturgeon Laid To Rest In Vernal Cemetery
Duffy Sturgeon 43 died in Salt Lake City hospital from bowel obstruction. He leaves widow Ruth and five daughters, plus a sister and three half brothers. Services were conducted in Park City and Vernal with floral tributes and remarks on his life.

Paving US 40 Through Basin Urged by Utah Auto Club

Advisory Board Hears Grazing Applications
The first meeting of Utah Grazing District No 9 board was held at the county courthouse with officials from the U S Land Office and grazing service. About four to five hundred applications were reviewed to issue temporary licenses for 1300 cattle, 1200 horses, and 19300 sheep. A Vernal hearing August 26 will consider appeals and applications.
