Lions to Aid Farmers With Boxing Card Fund Gymnasium

A three night boxing program at the Farm Bureau building September 11 12 and 13 sponsors Van Massey and associates aims to raise funds for an initial community gymnasium. Sammy Hatch appears in the opener with KO Jackson of East Laka in an eight round bout.

Large Stake Conference Draws Attendees and Local Lions Aid

Uintah stake conference drew smaller crowds than usual with 750 on Saturday morning 651 Sunday afternoon and 509 Sunday evening. Speakers included Mrs John NI Evans Mrs Charles W Sfart and Axel Madsen from Salt Lake City with President Hyrum B Calder presiding. The Vernal Lions Club announced actions to aid Uintah county farmers through more water storage projects and pledged support for the Vernal Rodeo funds and a scenic highway proposal connecting Big Park Taylor mountain to Paradise Park.

Rodeo Queen to Be Chosen at Vernal Grand Ball

At the Imperial Hall a pre season rodeo dance on Friday night September 6 will elect Vernal Rodeo Queen for the first time in local history. Voters gain tickets crediting votes and cash prizes are awarded to the electing organization and the runner up.

Fine Assessed for Killing Sage Hens

Deputy game warden arrested Maurice Caldwell of Dry Fork with a large quantity of sage hens. There is no open season for sage hens this year. Caldwell pleaded guilty before Justice Charles Carter and was fined $25 and posted bond.

Vernal student wins 1935 34 Utah State Agricultural College scholarship

Miss Marjorie Twitchell of Vernal and Uintah high school is named the 1935 34 scholarship winner for Utah State Agricultural College awarded to top students from each high school. She has strong scholastic records and active four-year involvement. Alternates are Miss Veda Bingham and Henry Millecam.

Prolonged Illness Claims Former Vernalite

Mrs Ethelynn Bartlett Harmon former Vernal girl died at her Price home Sunday after a long illness. Born January 12 1902 she was the daughter of Ashley and Winnie Bartlett and oldest child. She moved to Carbon county in 1922 and was active in LDS church work including organist roles and musical directing. Survived by husband John Jesse Harmon four children four sons? actually four children John Ray Kathryn Gwen dolyn and Robert Bartlett five brothers and three sisters. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm in Price LDS tabernacle with burial in Price City cemetery.

State Purchases Stewart Lakes for Public Use

The Stewart Lakes at Jensen were acquired by the state fish and game department late Wednesday afternoon. About 700 acres will become a public nesting and hunting ground, with development planned under a WPA project. Hugh Woolton led the negotiations for the department.

Airplane Stunts and Rodeo Thrills Highlight Vernal Fair Week

Vernal hosts a Vernal Rodeo September 12 to 14 with parachute jumps from planes above the fair grounds and daily rodeo events. Guy Rife will manage the rodeo with a string of 100 bucking broncos, $200 first prize, and total purses of $3700 plus $2500 in racing bets across seven daily races. Speeds, horse racing, and public entertainment promise a record eastern Utah western Colorado audience turnout with aviators, dances, and special features each evening.

Guilty Plea in Chicken Theft Case

William Richardson age 20 pleaded guilty to stealing chickens. Judge Abel Turner imposed a suspended sentence with sixty days in jail, a $25 county reimbursement, and one year of court supervision under local law and orders.

The Mosby Irrigation Company is incorporated in Uintah county with a $150000 capital, 10 shares at $13 each, funding 3000 acres of fertile land in the Lapoint area. Joseph Spriggs Found Guilty in Incest Charge

The district court convicted Joseph Spriggs of incest after a two day trial. Spriggs had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. the plea was withdrawn once the jury returned its verdict. Sentencing is set for September 9 before Judge Aba W. Turner with an indeterminate term of not less than three nor more than fifteen years.
