City council OKs payment for runway repaving project
Vernal City Council approved Resolution 77-6 authorizing Vernal's share of a 872,956 crosswind runway repaving at the Vernal Airport. Lanny Kay said about 91 percent of funding comes from the FAA, 4.53 percent from Utah, 3.40 percent from Uintah County, and Vernal City covers 1.13 percent about 5,000 dollars. Work should begin this week and last roughly 120 days with completion anticipated before year end. The meeting also noted a 46 percent rise in the city’s insurance premiums upon renewal September 1, due to high claims, with Aetna proposing offset by policy changes and possible re bidding. Further discussion planned after City Manager Nelson investigates the rate increase.
