Bids Opened On New LDS 3 Ward Vernal Chapel

Bids were opened for the Vernal Ist Fifth and Ninth Wards Chapel in the Relief Society room. R D Sawyer of Salt Lake City had the low bid at 750000, Steenbirk Construction the high bid at 895800, with Loewen and Shimizu and Intermountain also bidding. Church estimates projected total costs near 857816 to 897000, with building to cover 18000 square feet, 23 teaching stations, a 348 seat chapel, gym, library and offices. Construction by contractor to start in two to three weeks, 380 calendar days to completion.

City win 31600 state housing grant aid seniors, low income

The Vernal City Council announced an additional state housing grant of 20915 bringing total grants for the year to 31600. The funds will aid elderly and low income homeowners in repairs from water heaters to roofs. City Manager Nelson said over 100 homes have benefited and the council discussed expanding use for senior citizen housing and possible convalescent home remodeling, with private rentals at low cost.

Kiwanis Dedicates Bicentennial Park Shelter in Vernal

Kiwanis Club dedicates the Vernal Bicentennial Park Picnic Shelter on the nation 200th birthday anniversary. Kent Taylor and Leonard Heney unveiled a granite plaque as Boy Scout Troop 237 led the pledge and national anthem. The park at 4710 West 1500 North nears completion with public reservations for the finished pavilion.
