The Vernal Garden Club announces its fifth annual flower show to be held August 2 at the Utah Field House of Natural History. Mrs. Ellen Youthien chairs, with reception 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and judging rules detailing exhibitor grown flowers, correct naming, and container provisions.

Get Utah Plates Driver Permits Warns Patrolman

Utah Highway Patrolman Sam D. Hatch warns motorists in Uintah County to obtain Utah license plates and driver permits immediately or face court. He notes heightened enforcement, with plates available at Vernal courthouse on Tuesdays and Thursdays and licenses on Fridays and Saturdays until noon. Hatch reports Uintah County's seven and a half months without a fatal accident, and a low accident rate so far this year, contrasting with Duchesne County’s four fatalities last year.

Vernal Kids Romp and Stomp at Lee Levinger Day

A Vernal group of children visited Salt Lake City for Lee Levinger Day touring the Utah State Capitol Liberty Park and Hogle Zoo. They enjoyed rides peanuts hamburgers and soda in a festive day organized by Acme Paint Shop owner and local committee members. Gov J Bracken Lee greeted the children as they toured offices and the capitol elevator operator reported being overwhelmed by the lively group.

Dam Day brings four GOP aspirants to Vernal event

A Dam Day fete in Vernal will feature four GOP hopefuls for Congress and Senate. Gov. Bracken Lee and Sen. Arthur Watkins are set as principal speakers, with Rue Cheng, Wallace F. Bennett, Dr Preston Jones, and Dr Howard Call also scheduled. Talent show prizes total 50 dollars, and free kid pictures will be offered. An all-star Duchesne versus Uintah softball game precedes talks and prize drawings.

Vernal Resident Dies at 78 at Glines Home

William H. Kanistanaux a 78 year old Vernal resident died Sunday at his Glines residence from a heart ailment. Born July 4 1873 in New York he married Plodma Pearson in 1902 in Boulder Colorado. They moved to Utah and settled Ashley Valley in 1921 where he worked as a blacksmith and farmer and was active in the Episcopal church. Survived by his widow five daughters and two sons including Hazel Smith Watt Utah Alice Schaefer Odessa Texas Marion Richardson Bonanza Alaska Carol Skelton Fairbanks Alaska. Funeral services planned today at St Paul Episcopal church with services continuing.

City to Pave Streets by Force Account

City will pave several streets by force account after bids failed. The project covers asphalt paving on First South St from K East to Fifth East, First East St from Second South to Third South, and Second West St from First North to Second North. Miss Manker Departs Four for Britain

Amelia Manker, Utah exchange teacher, leaves Vernal for Britain via Washington and New York, then Southampton and London for a two week orientation before assignment to Flixton County Junior School in Manchester England. Union High School Delays Opening Amid Staffing Fears

Six Of County's First Ten Pass Army Physicals

Six of Uintah county's first ten men from draft board No. 32 passed preinduction physicals. Mrs. Evelyn Slaugh reports nine accepted for active duty while the board notified almost 30 others to attend physicals at Fort Douglas on August 22. Some exemptions were noted due to marital status. Utah's November quota is set at 258, with October calls expected to include 900 to 1100 men for physicals.
