A large crowd watched Naples overwhelm Vernal Fifth Ward 16 to 2 at Jaycee Ballpark in the Ukntah Stake playoff. Shirkey Price opened with a home run while Bud Goodrich led Naples with three runs. Duane Price and Shirley Price starred for Naples as Vernal’s Ralph Olsen and Thadr Allen scored for Vernal.

Two Tourists Hurt In Car Pileup Near Vernal Utah

A 1949 Pontiac driven by Clarence Lawrence Ross of San Diego California left Highway 40 nine miles west of Vernal Utah at 11 15 am. The car flew across a wash and struck the far bank. Scarring injuries included a broken arm and knee for Mrs Mary F Ross and severe facial lacerations for Mrs Charles D Bess. Both are reported in good condition. The other three occupants were uninjured. Ross received a citation for loss of vehicle control.

The Civil Air Patrol Ulph Wing announces Friday 2 pm meetings at the National Guard Armory. Ralph Preece says Air Force films will be shown to inform members. Bein Family Summer Trip to North Dakota and Yellowstone

Pipeline Office Opens Aug 18 On No Vernal Ave

Associated Press reports a new office for Associated Pipeline Contractors will open August 18 in the old Gulf Seismograph building on North Vernal Avenue, with Dick Bond of Houston as office manager. About 225 men will work on the Vernal site as construction continues on the 18 mile stretch from Green River to Jensen, including right of way clearing by Pette Brothers and a dynamite crew breaking four miles of solid rock. The project ties into a 75 million cubic feet daily Wyoming gas line from Four Corners to Bellingham, with gas destined for the main transmission system.

County Levee Raises 11.7 Mills For School Levy

County Commissioners adopted a 47.7 mill property levy, up 11.7 from last year, due to a 7.5 mill school levy and 4.8 to the Uniform State Fund. The breakdown lists General 2.5 now 3.0, Poor 3.1, Library 3.3, School Levy 35.0 now 27.5, Uniform Fund 4.6, County Roads 2.5 now 2.6, Agriculture .5, Fair 1.1, Recreation 1.2, Hospital 1.2 now 1.0, Weeds Control .1, Colorado River support .5, plus a new fund. The board cited solid county finances and aimed to keep expenses reasonable, noting winter frost damaged roads and a plan to grade them.

Uintah Cattlemen Plan Annual Roundup Barbecue Saturday

Uintah Cattle and Horse Growers Association plans its annual Cowboy Roundup and barbecue for Saturday. Leland Sowards says the social event will start at 9 a.m. at the Courthouse with two USAC livestock experts discussing range problems. Radford Mall of the American Livestock Association will be guest speaker. Directors will be elected and a financial report presented.
