Local Grocery Promotion Lags Says Nielsen Report
Chicago reports warn of risks to branded goods from reduced dealer advertising. Nielsen notes national ad levels held for 23 food commodities from 1941 to 1942, but retail support lagged. Independent stores slashed ads while chains held up, lowering independent market share and triggering sales declines tied to reduced local advertising.
