Utah Announces 70 Day Duck Hunt Season

The Utah Fish and Game Department issued a proclamation extending the duck hunting season to 70 days from October 1 to December 1. Daily shooting hours shift from sunrise to sunset across four districts, with daily bag limits unchanged and possession limits cut to two per day and four total. The change reflects declining waterfowl numbers and aims to better regulate harvest while accommodating hunter preference.

Kennard Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in Coast Artillery

Franklin J. Kennard, long time educational adviser at Vernal COC camp, is promoted to Lieutenant Colours and transferred to the Barragr Malloon School at Camp Tyson, Tennessee for a six week course before field duty with the balloon defense branch. His previous promotion placed him at Camp Calton last year and his family lives in San Diego.

Edwin J. Winder Promoted to Technician at Fort Harrison

Edwin J. Winder in basic training at the Finance Replacement Center Fort Benjamin Harrison Indiana was promoted to technician. He previously worked as a clerk in the United States Army Finance office in Omaha Nebraska before his induction at Fort Leavenworth Kansas on May 19. He is the son of Mr and Mrs E J Winder of Vernal and husband of Virginia Winder of Omaha.

Emery Man Appointed State Fish and Game Director

Ross Leonant, longtime director of the state welfare department smoke-work program, was named director of the state fish and game department by Governor Herbert B. Maw. Basin to Receive 1000 Jersey Calves in Dairy Drive

The American Jersey Cattle Club launches a nationwide food production campaign gifting 1000 purebred Jersey calves to boost dairy breeding. Uintah Basin will host calves next week with a gala planned for Saturday August 15. A Roosevelt exhibit will showcase dairy products and proper feeding practices.

County To Aid Grazing Service In Fire Control

At the request of district grazier L Wayne Larson the Board of County Commissioners agreed to cooperate in control fires on grazing land. They discussed county equipment for emergencies and offered two county power grader patrols with operators in change. Larson also called attention to bridge repairs over Bitter Creek damaged by floods. Commissioner Alms Prevca will inspect needed repairs. Mary S Colton a pioneer mother born Provo 1860 died Wednesday at 1 00 in Vernal after illness. Widow of Adelbert Colton she lived in Maeser and Vernal, survived by one son George W Colton Denver two brothers and many grandchildren. Road Projects in Uintah County Near Vernal

Uintah County will build highway segments about one to two miles west and north of Vernal. The plan covers mining and processing native asphalt, hauling, and laying it by hand labor with three monthly shifts. Estimated costs include 36 million for five miles of gravel road and 1.2 thousand dollars for a one mile segment near Bellord Werd Chapel.

Road Program To Aid Farmers In Uintah County

Uintah county will benefit from a new road program aimed at helping farmers. It is separate from WPA projects, with governor Maw directing aims to aid rural areas away from defense centers. The state road commission will provide heavy machinery and rock crushers, while Uintah county supplies materials and equipment. The plan, surveyed countywide, includes projects like the Maeser program and promises long term employment for farmers as work continues.

Vernal City Council Weighs Bike Rack Installations

Vernal City Council held a semi monthly meeting in the City Chamber. Mayor A H Stringhaw predicted a senator in attendance while Dr J W Stevens was granted permission to install bicycle racks in front of Vernal Bowling Alleys. Irving Stringham Chosen to Train as Army Pilot

Word received by Mr and Mrs I Ray Stringham shows their son Irving Ray Stringham has been selected for training as a pilot in the Army Air Forces. General Harmon noted the promotion and the family should be proud of his progress. Irving trained at Kell Field Texas and was recently in Vernal.
