The Utah State Press Association invites eighty weekly newspaper publishers and wives to a three day Green Lakes summer outing with contests in trap shooting rifle shooting horseshoe pitching fishing a bathing beauty contest and travel prizes. Prizes include Vernal honey cans and souvenir bottles plus club sponsorships. Delegates travel via Vernal with brochures on local geology and a schedule featuring swimming softball a business meeting barbecue and sightseeing trips.

A 25 man forest road crew races to finish the Red Cloud road before fall storms. Ona Aison of Ashley National Forest reports progress with a Uintah Forest motor patrol aiding the crew. Ward Evans leads the team as large tractors run double shifts and steel girders await for a bridge over Ashley Creek. The road will unlock 135 million board feet of merchantable lodgepole and spruce for Utah and Colorado mines and serve hunters and fire protection efforts.

Second Accident In Naples On Uintah Highway Causes Damage
A second crash on Uintah Highway 40 near Naples followed a Saturday wreck that killed four. Deputy Hullinger reports a two car collision 100 yards from the prior scene. Lewis Thompson 26 Denver and Morris Durfee were involved. Durfee made an improper left turn. $400 damage reported. no injuries.

State Auto Court Convention Slated for Vernal

Fatal Utah Valley Car Crash Kills Four Vernal Youths
A late Saturday highway crash near Vernal, Utah, claimed four Vernal youths and injured one seriously. Dale Goodrich, 17, Grant McCoy Preece, 23, Harold Odekirk, 22, and Myrtle Givens, 15, died at the scene or shortly after. Phylis Ostberg, 15, survived with serious injuries. The Preece car, driven by Ellis Goodrich, collided after Lorin Richens, 17, attempted a passing maneuver, causing vehicles to leave the roadway and crash into guard rails. The accident occurred on Highway 40 four miles east of Vernal. Survivors include Grant McCoy Preece’s family and other relatives. the deceased’s body transported to Vernal for services. The incident prompted an investigation by State Trooper Sammy Hatch.
