Current Creek Detour Accident Injures Four in Utah
Four Salt Lakers en route to Vernal suffered injuries Sunday at 9 a.m. on U S Highway 40 near Current Creek when a new sedan collided with a gasoline tanker. Mrs Marjorie Vincent Evans, 28, and her husband Alfred L Evans, with sons Billy Lewis Evans and Freddy Lewis Evans, were hurt. Mrs Evans remains critical in a Salt Lake hospital. The crash was blamed in part on the detour and involved a downgrade curve. The incident followed byRailway Express service to Vernal, with no surface-shipment arrangements announced yet.

Gardiner Infant Dies After Birth in Uintah Hospital
The infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Donald R Gardiner of Jensen died within 24 hours after birth on August 1 at Uintah County Hospital. Cause was premature birth. Mrs Gardiner is in satisfactory condition. The baby was the first birth in the new hospital. Graveside rites were held Tuesday evening at Neola under Swain Funeral Home.

Naval Reserve Sets Up Radio Station in Uintah CCC Camp

Former Editor Dies in Illinois
Francis Marion Young 79 native of Utah and former editor of The Verna Express died July 26 at his daughter’s home in Aurora Indiana. He graduated from the University of Utah and helped collect material for Fort Laramie history. Born April 8 1870 in Salt Lake City he married Ann Egbert in 1898. Survivors include son Earl Young and two daughters Ardis McCartey and Berdan Roth with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral held July 29 in Salt Lake City.

Community Cannery Opens For Uintah Residents
A newly painted Uintah community cannery opened Tuesday and will run through the summer and fall canning season. Operated with Uintah school district cooperation, it can handle about 2000 cans daily. Appointments for use may be made by calling 121 or 273 J between 7 am and 6 pm or 8 pm. The cannery opens Friday at 7 am. Mrs. Ona Woolley supervises, with Verdin Johnson as manager. The center will seal No 2 and 2 1/2 cans in the future, and supports preserving vegetables fruits meat and poultry for Uintah basin residents and nearby areas.
