Indiana man tells wonders of a far north country
A Mazeppa Georgia traveler claimed Indiana was near the North Pole and described a land with shorter mountains and darker skies. He boasted of vast forests and fish that could not be crossed by horse, a log splitting to form a wagon road, and a climate so cold that fire froze to chimneys. Local residents doubted the tall tales.
