Columbus Caravels in New York Bay Naval Pageant

The three Spanish caravels Santa Maria Nina and Pinta arrived in lower New York Bay and were moved up the North River as guns boomed. The land display will include about 3000 US sailors and marines and 4000 US troops. A historic flag-raising at Navesink Light marked by Mrs. H R P Stafford and Mrs. Stevenson followed by a patriotic address by Assistant Secretary of the Navy McAdoo.

Trans Miss irrigation plan eyed by Mead in arid lands talk

State Engineer Elwood Mead of Wyoming promotes a law via the Irrigation Age to reclaim arid lands by placing ditch costs as a first lien on watered land. Settlers would join the irrigation enterprise, becoming stockholders as land is settled, with state or national control favored for water and land. Ogden Standard notes the proposal as a superior approach.

Cowboys Attack Indians Near Green River Utah

In an Aug 25 scrimmage at Green River Knowels & Co cowboys fought Navajo Indians. Two cowboys were wounded including leader Kid Jonson who may die. Indians had raided cattle for the reservation. A later fight near Dirty Davis left two Indians killed after a dispute with prospectors Connell over whisky.

Bids Sought for Burn Project Near Vernal Utah

The District No 2 board calls for proposals to burn 30 000 buck within two miles of Vernal in Uintah County Utah. Proposals must be received by May 13 1803 and handed to C C Bartlett by noon on the designated day.
