The mayor announces Saturday April 26 as Clean up Day urging citizens to clean up paint and repair property to present Vernal with a better appearance for May Day visitors. The city marshal is authorized to remove rubbish on April 26 and 28 with advance notice of locations.

Legion Auxiliary Calls Uintah Children to Fund Veterans Memorial

The Uintah county Legion Auxiliary urges school children and teachers to donate to a county veterans memorial fund during the coming week. Small contributions from each student will place a county memorial for World War veterans. donors’ names would be sealed in the cornerstone, inspiring patriotism as they see the monument in Vernal. The dedication date is suggested for July 4 or July 24 in a major patriotic celebration.

University of Utah to excavate large dinosaur find

Golden York and a four man crew will excavate a large dinosaur exposed near the Uintah Basin quarry under Professor Douglass. The effort could lead to the dinosaur becoming a national monument and the site a major natural museum near the Victory highway, prompting a push to Utah congressmen and local communities to support preservation.

City Council Purchases Electric Repay Meters

The city council approved street trades to conform to paving on the Victory highway. They bought two electric repay meters and an electric stove for campers, to be funded by quarter deposits until exhausted. Delinquent water users will be notified they must pay or lose water services.

Asphalt Surfacing to Start Late May on Victory Highway

State road engineer W. H. Varley says asphalt surfacing and laying on the road west from town on the Victory highway will begin in the latter part of May after warm weather. Rock crushing and asphalt hauling will be completed soon. This marks Utah's first test of native asphalt for roads and draws keen interest.

Uintah School Bonds Signed by County Clerk

County Clerk Wilson Murray signed 120 bonds valued at one thousand dollars each for the Uintah school. The Palmer Bond and Mortgage Company of Salt Lake City purchased them at nearly par, bearing interest with 40 attached coupons. Bonds will also be signed by William Siddoway, William C. Marshall, and A. G. Goodrich.

W O Donnell left Sunday for Salt Lake City as attorney for defendant Dominick Defa of Duchesne charged with selling liquor to an Indian. Word came Tuesday that the attorney won the case.

April Snow Storm Hits With Heavy Water Content

About six inches of snow with heavy water content covered the ground after midnight Tuesday. The storm melted quickly as temperatures remained very cold on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Pioneer Glines founder dies in Magna Utah

George Albert Thomas born January 2 1871 at Spantah Fork Utah died March 24 1924 in Magna Utah from pneumonia contracted from measles. He moved to Vernal married Bernice Duke of Hobel City. They had five sons and four daughters. His wife died in 1917 leaving seven children. He is survived by seven, two married, three brothers and four sisters. He contributed to ward musical life with violin and vocal services. Funeral held in Spanish Fork and Vermal with burial at Muneser cemetery beside his wife.
