Union Oil spuds in Cottonwood Springs west of Vernal

Union Oil spudded a test well 11 miles west of Vernal in Uintah County Utah. The Cottonwood Springs No. 1 well, in section 21 township 4 south range 20 east, near the Lapoint Vernal highway, will be drilled by Douglas Wyoming contractors Gardnon and Kinsley with three-driller crews. If successful the test could spur further oil activity around Vernal.

State Studies Asphalt For Rubber Use In Hopes Of Industry Here

State officials sent two field men to Vernal to inspect gilsonite deposits and study the Isaac Newton process for making synthetic rubber from asphaltum. They will file findings with the state commission and, if capital is lacking, forward results to the War Production Board.

Dorr M Finnicum named Ulntah County weed supervisor by the State Board of Agriculture on April 15. He was appointed by the county commissioners at Ubetr in a meeting that day with a salary of 20 per year effective from April 15. Uintah Basin Music Festival Set for May 1 2 in Roosevelt

The Third Annual Uintah Basin Music Festival will be held in Roosevelt May 1 and 2 with about 14 bands from Duchesne and Uintah counties. An estimated 2000 students will participate. events include concerts by elementary through high school groups, a parade at 1:30 PM, and judging by Clair Johnson and Roland Perry of Weber College.

Men 45 To 64 To Register For War Work Monday

The fourth selective service registration will occur next Monday with an estimated 50 000 Utal men registering for war production work. Lt. Col H A Rich says all male citizens and resident aliens aged 45 on or before Feb 26 1942 and under 85 on or before April 27 1942 must register for classification and will receive certificates to carry.
