County Leader Dies of Heart Attack in Vernal
John W. Weaver Vernal senior county commissioner died at home in Gimes after a heart attack while preparing for a radio newscast. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 PM in the Vernal First Ward chapel with Rev. Hallwood officiating. Pallbearers included local officials and church members, with several speakers and musical selections noted.

B H Stringham, eastern Utah Lions chair, delivered the principal address at a Lions Zone Meet held Wednesday night in Rosevelt. Attendees from Vernal and Roosevelt Lions clubs heard him warn of future threats and urge united action as war continues. Roosevelt High School and Vernal Lab provided musical numbers. J D Jones and others performed. A banquet at the Legion Hall was followed by a dance.

Loren Boren Funeral Held in Davis Chapel
Funeral services for Loren LeRoy Boren 42 who died April 8 at Dee hospital Ogden were held in the Davis ward chapel with Bishop Wallace Slaugh officiating. Singing by a quintet and solo numbers marked the service. Interment followed at Vernal Memorial Park under Swain Funeral Home direction. Born February 23 1929 in Wallsburg Utah he was survived by his widow two sons his father four brothers two sisters and several in laws and cousins.

Alterra High Band Concert Honors Army Leader
Alterra High School held its band concert on April 10. The Gles Club of about 50 girls performed as did the junior band with four numbers. Notable solos included Archie Neumeyer and Arda Caldwell on saxophones, Ruel Boddy on trombone, and Leroy Aftherson with Arlen Reynold accompanying. The advanced band of five, in new uniforms, was led by Bennie Behmerett who dedicated pieces to the former band leader A. C. Kinnon, now in the army.

Adams Family Rites Held After Salt Lake Death
A large crowd attended funeral services for Marie Annie Adams 81 at Dry Fork cemetery. She died April 12 at LDS Hospital Salt Lake City after cancer treatment. Interment followed in Vernal area with prayers by Ashley Bartlett and remarks by Archibald Johnson and Van Massey. Adams, married 1698, left a large extended family in Utah and California. Many from out of town attended including relatives from Huntington, Sun Valley, Huntington, and Arizona.

Vernal city councilman and Continental Oil Company manager Sowards was installed last week as a member of Draft Board No. 19, replacing Byron Goodrich who resigned. State offers aid for $50,000 lumber seasoning plant
The Utah State Advertising and Industrial Development commission, after a request from Ora Bundy and A. Brown, signals support to raise 25,000 from basin residents for a planing mill funded at 50,000 to season native timber in Ashley National Forest.
