A city council zoning hearing on the Merkley 1st addition west of 6th West Street and north of 1st North Street to Main Street was held. Canning Plant Considered for Uintah Basin
Woods Cross Canning Co officials told Duchesne County Agricultural Agent Robert Murdock they will buy locally grown peas and sweet corn for canning. A factory could be built and ready for the 1955 season if warranted, with the Heber City plant already in operation processing Uintah Basin produce. Extension survey suggests peas could become a valuable cash crop and tests show strong sweet corn potential in the area.

Babson’s Authentic Statement on 1954 Employment
Babson argues sales clerks will be the key to 1954 prosperity in mass market retail. He recalls his Gloucester father as a model merchant who trained clerks to know customers, stressing that advertising aids sales but cannot replace hard work and personal connection. He envisions chambers of commerce running night schools for clerks to boost national purchasing and reduce unemployment.
