Queen of Carnival race under way in Vernal festival setup

One week remains to select the Queen of May Day Carnival at Vernal Spring Festival. Four candidates are named Elva Eaton Vera Carroll Eva York Nelle Fletcher with 1060 complimentary votes cast. Voting booths in businesses and Vogue theatre. Final results at a dance on April 22 with live vote projections. Large crowds and visitors from Reservation areas expected for the Uintah Basin event.

Postmaster EB J Young Jr of Vernal received a letter from L R Whitted, superintendent of construction of federal buildings in Washington, DC, stating he would visit Vernal soon to discuss details for the federal building planned there. Water survey of Ashley and Dry Fork creeks to finish this year

He was summoned by Governor Mabey to meet with Secretary Hoover at the irrigation meet and spoke at several sessions, sharing valuable information. Bennion noted Ashley Valley’s weather is better than other points and Vernal’s vegetation is as advanced as Salt Lake City. He had been indisposed for several days and stayed at home prior to departure.

Freight trains reach Brimhall ranch amid rough roads

On Wednesday the Uritsh railway delivered two freight loads to Brimhall ranch and by Thursday morning freight teams were deployed to pull the cargo through the bad roads. The report notes a regression to harsh pioneer era conditions as infrastructure remains dire.

Midwest test in Hill Creek strikes water depth

Last week Midwest Oil Co. drilling in the Hill Creek area reached about 1440 feet when water was struck, with about 1300 feet of water in the hole. The Green River formation is estimated to lie between 1700 and 2000 feet at the test site.
