Notice to Teachers Exam Schedule and fees

Notice to Teachers announces monthly examinations on the last Saturday, with extra sittings on the second Saturday in March April September October and November. A special algebra physiology US history exam will be the Friday before the last Saturday in August. Applicants pay fifty cents, provide character certificates, and must arrive by 9 a.m. by order of the Board M H Tuttle Secy.

In Rraptine Pennsylvania a disastrous blaze engulfed several frontier houses near Mahanoy City. Miner Frank Farrell saved his seven year old son before perishing with the rest of his family as the flames collapsed the dwelling. Six bodies were recovered amid the ruined frame houses.

Dakota Admission Debate Opens Senate on Union Entry

Tragic Freight Accident Claims Henry Cross Near Belle Fontaine

Henry Cross, a young unmarried man, attempted to ride the locally used freight on the C C C L Railway and was killed two miles from Belle Fontaine. He fell between moving cars and was ground up with both legs and arms torn away, his head mangled, and clothing torn from him. A whisky bottle, partly filled, remained intact among his clothing. The body and garments were dragged for rods, with his head and one foot found far from the trunk.

Disaster at Roaring River Sinks W. P. Thompson With Wild West Show

The steamer W. P. Thompson collided with Captain Miller near St. Joseph Louisiana and sank on a bar. The Wild West show aboard lost buffalo and mountain sheep as the barge crew rescued all but two horses. Passengers narrowly escaped as the boat went down quickly, a tug and barge from Vicksburg assisted in the rescue.

Hill Released After Utah Embezzlement Case

East Saginaw Mich Dec 10 1883 Alexander S Hill formerly of Caro charged with embezzling 10000 from his wife in Salt Lake City was arrested in April 1883. After a legal battle he was sent to Utah on a requisition and jailed awaiting trial. Judge J P Sutherland arrived from Salt Lake to confer with Hill’s attorney and Hill was released after adjustment of the case.

The Madison assembly chamber met at two o clock yesterday afternoon and will remain in session until Friday. The afternoon focused on organization and preliminary work with the proposal to establish an independent agricultural college drawing favorable discussion.

Man Killed by Wife at City Hall in San Francisco

In San Francisco this morning Daniel Kennedy was shot and killed by his wife in front of the new City Hall. The incident occurred during a domestic quarrel and is under police investigation.
