Jackson Michigan inmates faced a jailwide search that uncovered four or five bushels of improvised weapons including knives saws small axes hammers and bludgeons no guns were found. The operation occurred while prisoners were moved to dining rooms following a Saturday attack on five guards by three Black prisoners. guards were assaulted with improvised weapons.
L T Feigert, county relief director, announced that applications for enrollment in the Civilian Conservation Corps should be in before May 15. No quota has been announced for the new enrollment.
A United Press report from May 6 notes that about 25 percent of U S farmers rely on government aid through AAA soil conservation and related programs. Estimated participation: roughly 3 to 4 million in AAA and soil conservation, plus 600,000 FCA crop loans and 600,000 RA rehabilitation clients, totaling near 1.6 million loaned or aided farmers.

Leo J. Hummer, named supervisor of the WPA emergency school classes, reported continued sessions until 10 p.m. with no charge to enroll or attend. Mooseheart facts include a 4000 child city with no police, its own bank and shops, and over 100 million spent on its creation and upkeep since 1913. no Mooseheart graduate has faced court. A special meeting Friday at 4 pm plans travel to district meeting in Galion Sunday May 10.

A four foot adder escaped in a Montreal hotel while doctors battled to save Ed ward E. Smith of Schrieber Louisiana who was bitten on the wrist. A snake charmer Miss Florence Zoda was summoned as police guarded exits. Smith had an arm amputation and faced grave danger from the venom.
Indiana dealers using a third party to sell cars to Ohioans does not excuse the purchaser from the new use tax. If the seller omits payment or the buyer files no return, penalties apply. Buyers cannot be prosecuted for naming the third party as owner but may be for failing to file the required report.

State highway patrolmen may request papers anytime and those without them face fines from 10 to 100 dollars.

In South Bend on May 6 the same undertaker arranged funeral plans for two Stephens Varva Var a 63 and his neighbor Stephen Varga 53. Both were ill for three weeks and died within hours of each other at Epworth Hospital. Each left a wife, Stephen Jr and a daughter Elizabeth. They were not related.
Mrs. Pearl Lainger oversees 37 women at the WPA sewing center who placed an exhibit of women and children's clothing bedding and curtains in the display windows of the former Coombs shoe store. Government furnished materials under relief projects are used to meet demand.
Franklin school pupils defeated Lincoln school in two games yesterday. The baseball team beat Lincoln 21 to 9 and then edged the Lincoln softball squad 30 to 29 in a close matchup.
A hardware merchant Charlies Packard and his wife with their 13 year old daughter Mary June and neighbor Mary Purdy were swept into the river when a flooded road gave way. Jones and two fishermen saved them after the car teetered on the bank and water rose toward the top. The car, damaged and barely controllable, had been driven only 300 miles.
On the Wilson farm near Wapakoneta Ohio a strawstack collapsed trapping and killing two cows that sought shelter beneath it. Farmer Wilson Schumann reported the tragedy describing the incident as a shock to the farm family.
