France and Belgium push League to sanction Germany over Rhineland

At an emergency League of Nations meeting in London on March 14 France and Belgium urged immediate collective penalties against Germany for alleged violations of Versailles and Locarno by occupying the Rhineland. Fire at 168 Main Street in the Woodruff estate building housing G1 Tobacco and E. P. Ferguson’s office was halted early today by the department. Man jailed for intoxication after Detroit man gives alias

A Detroit man who listed his name as Frank Hyden appeared before Mayor John H. Morrison charged with drunkenness. Det. Fred Hott of Cincinnati Northern arrested him. Hyden was fined five dollars and costs but defaulted on payment and was committed to the county jail.

A Miami University study shows upperclassmen average 3.38 dollars weekly for spending money and spend 1.10 on girlfriends while freshmen average 2.75 dollars and spend 95 cents on dates. The report notes 11 percent of campus males have no girlfriends, some with 12 to 14 dollars weekly allowances.

In Franklin county Ohio WPA timekeeper Zene Dakin tossed a paycheck to a worker on the far bank of a swollen Reppehanock River similar to how George Washington and Walter Johnson reportedly threw a silver dollar. The worker’s assignment slip and the timekeeper’s check were tied to a rock and hurled across the creek to identify the recipient. The rock delivery reached the opposite shore as winds and thawed water swelled the stream.

Townsend Plan Proposed for Ohio Retirement Income

Rev. Herbert S. Bigelow, Cincinnati councilman, filed a proposed constitutional amendment in Columbus to implement a modified Townsend plan. It would grant a $50 monthly retirement income to Ohioans aged 60 plus not in gainful work and resident at least five years. The plan keeps the 10 mill real estate tax limit but lets local divisions approve extra levies. small capital improvements up to $10,000 would be exempt from the new tax.
