Firemen battle three weekend blazes in Van Wert area
Three fires were fought over the weekend by Van Wert firefighters. A country home five miles south of Van Wert on Route 127 sustained heavy damage when a fire started in the afternoon, with the back part, an underground cellar and coal bins saved by water from a cistern. A high wind aided the flames. At 2 31 p.m. Saturday the McCoy residence at 114 North Tyler Street had minor roof damage from chimney sparks. In another incident, packing rags caught fire in a garage at 226 East Kep lar Street when a gasoline blowtorch used to thaw pipes exploded. no injuries. Fire crews also answered alarms at Van Wert Manufacturing and the Container company city plants. A sprinkler system activated at the factory when water was shut off, and the Container alarm prompted questions about its cause. All three trucks responded, with the first call at 12 16 p.m. and the auxiliary pumper arriving later.

Water Break Reaches in Short Time

Two Children Die In Fairfield Cottage Fire
Dayon Ohio February 10 a fire destroyed Ray Simmons cottage at Fairfield near Dayton. Two young children aged two and three died from burns while their mother Mrs Simmons remained in critical condition. In a separate dispatch from Washington February 10 the body of former Vice President Charles Curtis is on a funeral train en route to Topeka Kansas for services. State Roads Reopened After Snow, Officials Report

Richard T. Hughes 77 a prominent retired farmer of York township died Sunday morning at 10 at his home two miles west of Venedocia after a three month illness. He is survived by three sons Ben of Toledo W. and Lester of York tp. two daughters Mrs. E. E. Welker of Elgin and Mrs. C. R. Walery of York tp. and one sister Miss Sarah Hughes of York tp. His wife died three months ago. Funeral services Tuesday at 2 pm at the Presbyterian church in Venedocia with Rev. W. T. Jones officiating. Burial in Venedocia cemetery.
