Mrs. Elva Ricketts Dies After Mayo Clinic Operation

Mrs. Elva Ricketts wife of Alonzo Ricketts of Dipkinston avenue died Monday morning in a Rochester Minnesota hospital after an operation. She had been ill for some time and was taken to Mayo Brothers clinic. The body arrived this afternoon and funeral arrangements were not announced. She is survived by her husband two step sons and two grandchildren.

Prominent Beekeeper Dies in Delphos Ohio

Frederick John Leininger 65 a leading commercial apiarist in northwestern Ohio died at home in Delphos after a long illness. Born in Fort Jennings he started beekeeping there before moving to Delphos in 1908. Survived by widow two daughters Mrs Edna Jane Sadler and Mrs Irvin Baker and son Walter Leininger. Funeral Wednesday at 2 PM in Delphos M E church.

Lima Bandits Slay Police Officer in Lima

Four men shot and killed Police Sergeant Richard Rivers as he and two brothers confronted them at Dr. E. E. Rose home. The bandits, linked to a Monday jewelry store robbery, fled and were later sought by Sheriff Stevens and Deputy Mounts across Van Wert and Paulding counties.

Miss Brown Death Found Accidental In Auto Crash

Dr W E Beach county coroner filed an inquest finding stating Miss Alice Brown of southeast of Wren died April 18 near Wren from a fractured neck in an auto crash at a tunnel west of Wren. The accident involved a car driven by Clarence Smith of Decatur hitting a concrete abutment.

Grange Banquet Set For Van Wert County Members

The annual Grange banquet for Van Wert county members will be held Wednesday at 7 pm at the YWCA. Lem Rank will serve as toastmaster and Mrs Ruth Williamson will lead the singing. Rev Tom Fred Campbell will be the principal speaker. A roller skating party will follow the meal.

Traffic over the Dutch John road north of Van Wert was restored yesterday after the new bridge over Town Creek was completed. County surveyor D A Snyder said the old bridge collapsed about three weeks ago and the new structure was placed in record time.

Traction Collision Kills Motorman Near Urbana

A Cincinnati Leake Erie traction car collided on a curve near Urbana Ohio two and a half miles south of town today killing the motorman aboard the north bound car and injuring six others. O F Patterston of Toledo was killed.

New York Underworld Leader Arrested After Bail Posted

Mrs. Anna Torrie paid 1000000 in currency to bail her husband John Torrie a New York and Chicago underworld leader accused of leading a repeat illicit liquor ring. He was rearrested by city detectives on a five year old forgery case tied to a $1500 promisory note signed by Jacob Oil a turrier who denounced the note as fraud.

Work to Drain and Improve Fair Grounds Pool Soon

Van Wert County Parks Association officers told Kiwanis Club members at Hotel Marsh last night that draining and improvements at the fair grounds swimming pool will begin this week. The meeting featured a music program by the Van Wert High School boys glee club directed by James H. Jones.

Egypt's King Fuad Dies. Son Farouk Ascends Under Regency

King Fuad I of Egypt died in Cairo at age 68 after stomatitis with gangrenous tendencies. Crown Prince Farouk, aged 16, automatically ascends the throne under a regency amid political unrest and British influence. Farouk was in London under guard and education is being directed by a chosen staff. Fuad I began the throne in 1917 after Hussein Kamil's death and was married twice, leaving a son Farouk and daughters.

Claud Starbuck six year old son of Mr and Mrs C F Starbuck of southeast of the city died Monday night in Van Wert County Hospital where he had been a patient since Friday night from pneumonia No funeral arrangements had been announced.

Car overturns on Lincoln highway near Van Wert

A car with Indiana plates overturned and badly damaged about 10:30 last night on a bridge along Lincoln highway one mile west of Van Wert. Deputy Sheriff Frank Mounts said a truck side swiped the car and the drivers’ names were not learned. The vehicle was moved to the Ford garage.

Man thanks cop after losing fortune at Jamaica track

Henry Hewitt, 58, won $20 to $1,800 across five races at Jamaica track. He celebrated by tossing money in the air and was restrained by a policeman who arrested him for drunkenness with $1,710 remaining. Hewitt blamed the officer for saving him from further loss at the bookies.
