After five days of success the fair ended Saturday night due to a heavy rain. Stock parades were moved to Saturday for Mrs Butler’s funeral with 25 horses 22 mules and 24 cattle. The event featured pig clubs a wild west show and local talent drawing large crowds.

Joint Institutes Planned by Salamonie and Van Buren Schools
Plans were set for joint institutes this winter with teachers from Salamonie and Van Buren township schools including Warren and Van Buren high schools. Institutes will meet monthly on Saturdays alternating between Van Buren and Warren, with morning sessions on reading circle reports and afternoon meetings for primary and high school teachers to discuss topics of interest. Superintendents H. H. Scott and Rex Potters announced the arrangement.

A son of George Boller had a swarm of bees at his father's home. A thief tried to steal the hive Friday evening, using a large sack. The bees fought back, leaving the thief's straw hat and a large carry poke behind. No witnesses. The piece ends with a bee poem.

Garrison, longtime manager of the Farmers Elevator Company of Van Buren, has purchased a 75 000 bushel capacity elevator at Raub Benton county and will move his family there around October 10. The former cooperative elevator, now in receivership, stands as a major grain facility in a strong farming area, with Garrison noting his vast experience in grain and coal trades and calling Raub a fine opening for his family.
