Mrs James Boxell obituary notes long life in Indiana

Arlie Elkins born in Wells County Indiana September 1 1855 spent life near Dillman Van Buren. Married twice first to Milton C Willianson 1887 six children survive three died in infancy and three live in Bridgeport Illinois. Joined churches later United in marriage to James Boxell 1889 three more children born all of Van Buren. Died March 14 aged 58 years 6 months 13 days after long illness. Funeral at M E Church conducted by Rev L A Levits burial Van Buren cemetery.

Sacred Cantata Ruth Presented by Van Buren Chorus

The Van Buren Choral Club performs the sacred cantata Ruth at A and D hall on Saturday evening March 28. A. R. Gaul provides the music under Miss Bertha Wolk direction with local orchestra. Leading roles include Naomi Cecil Palmer Ruth Lois Eshelman Orpah Gladys Leach Boaz Wyeth Landens. General admission 25 cents, school children 15 cents.

Democrats at R and D hall held a Saturday afternoon convention to nominate a township Democratic ticket. The only contested race was for trustee with Enoch L. Pierson and A. R. Witmer, Witmer leading. other nominees include D. F. Losure assessor and John Mathias S. V. Shimp M. B. Clover Leaf Crossing North First Street To Get Electric Bell

The Business Men's Association urged the city council to require protection at the Clover Leaf crossing on North First street. City Attorney T R Dickey prepared a resolution for the next meeting. Dickey's correspondence with the railroad led to a notice that the Clover Leaf will install an electric bell at the crossing as soon as possible.

Poultry Club Grows as Area Members Buy Birds

Local poultry men report purchases from breeders in Iowa Ohio Illinois and new imports. Miss Margaret Green buys Ancona chickens while I C Mills receives rose comb Rhode Island Red roosters. Newell Green adds White Orpingtons and Zay Roberts acquires Silver Campines as Van Buren Township eyes becoming a leading poultry egg producer.

A local informant reports a Van Buren township farmer producing 250 eggs daily at 25 cents per dozen. The flock costs under one dollar a day to feed, yielding about 84 dollars in profit each day.

The Lyric theatre has been re wired and new lights put in front of the building placed more attractively than formerly.

Bank building to rise on corner site after demolition

The rear of the old building at the corner vacated by F A Bratton and acquired by E W Landers is being torn down to make way for a Van Buren State Bank. A new sewer to Rood's Run is installed and the planned bank will offer public conveniences. W C Booz purchased the front portion and will move it to his farm.
