Polk Huff Recalls Pioneer Life In Black Creek Era

Polk Huff born 1859 in Van Buren township recounts early days when Black Creek teemed with fish and game. He recalls wolves in woods, Indian visitors, bear sightings, corn harvest, whiskey trade, and hunting with family friends as roads and timber shaped a frontier landscape.

Great growth in past two years for farmers federation

The township farmers' organization met Saturday with Peter Peterson of Swayzee praising the Farmers Federation growth to the nation’s largest farmers group. A study committee was named to improve marketing and state and national legislation affecting agriculture. A pure seed law was cited as already passed in Indiana. Directors for eight districts were chosen and another meeting planned in two weeks with talks by local men and open discussion.

Real Estate Transactions In Marion City Market

Acs Mrs Daughtres of Marion sold property to Mr and Mrs O Brumblett who reside on a farm northwest of town. Ed Newton sold his home to Mr and Mrs Ballard who will move soon. Nelson & DePow and W K Fraizer handled several deals including Newtons to Snavely, and E C Moore bought the George Lee property on South Flint Street. Fraizer and Nelson & DePow facilitated most closings Monday with other town properties for sale. Call any of them to buy or sell.

Armenian relief fund praised as properly handled by locals

Rev. David Jones now of Mentone and former Marion county chairman in Indiana affirmed that the Armenian relief fund money raised locally was disbursed correctly. He praised township chairman E. H. DePoy and stated that checks and vouchers passed through his hands and that the funds had no connection to the Methodist centenary fund.

Rough Victory By Van Buren Over Fairmount in Tight Match

Van Buren led 17-8 at halftime and withstood a Fairmount comeback to win in a fast paced game. Captain Creviston and K Dore starred for Van Buren while H Jones paced the visitors. Creviston, Doyle and Van Buren players contributed in a clash marked by five man defense and late scoring surge.
