Fine Band Concert Opens Season in New Stand
The Van Buren F and A M Band, under Prof Lucas, performed in the new band stand on Wednesday to a large crowd. The stand is 18 feet square, built solidly by local merchants and citizens, with contractor William Bray aiming for precise craftsmanship. Concerts continue weekly through summer inviting all to attend, with nearby stores open for merchandise.

Rev Lutes Speaks at Odd Fellows Service and Home Plans
Rev Lutes addressed Van Buren I O F Lodge No 633 at the annual Decoration service in the M E Church. He spoke of Greensburg State Home of Odd Fellows established 1900 on a 136 acre site with over 200 guests capacity and noted the forthcoming Schuyler Coal fax Home and School building costing 60 000 to 75 000 with 65 bed hospital club arcade and other facilities. He cited the endowment now over 70 000 and read 1 Samuel xx 10 Thou shalt be missed because thy seat will be empty.

600 Chicks Burned in Fire at LaFontaine
Joseph Sutton of LaFontaine Indiana lost a chicken house and 600 young chickens in a Thursday night fire discovered around 2 a m. The origin is unknown though authorities suspect arson. Sutton planned to market 150 broilers the next morning.

Pioneer Tinkle Dies After Long Brethren Service
Funeral services were held at the Church of the Brethren in Landess for Daniel Tinkle born November 10 1837 in Preble County Ohio son of Henry and Eliza Crist Tinkle. He lived in Grant County Indiana near Marion and died June 16 1923 aged 85 years 7 months 6 days. He leaves six children 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He served as deacon and was known as a devoted Bible reader who completed the Bible six times in seven years. Interment followed in Landess cemetery with Rev Hummer presiding.

Harold Bachman Band to Play National Legion Convention
Harold Bachman leads the Million Dollar Band selected to perform at the American Legion National Convention in Minneapolis on November 10 11 12 1919. The band opened and closed all sessions and has since played nationwide including three winters in West Palm Beach Florida. They perform at Winona Lake Indiana for three days starting June 28 under the Winona Assembly and Bible Conference.
