Rev Henry W Miller longtime pastor buried in Van Buren

The Rev Henry W Miller former Methodist pastor of Ridge Farm Indiana died Friday July 8 at Fort Wayne Lutheran hospital after thyroid illness. He was nearly 54 and served 25 years in ministry with postings across Minnesota Indiana Wisconsin and Illinois. Funeral at Van Buren M E Church Sunday 8 p m with sermons by Rev Ernest Lutes and Rev C W Hamand using Mark 10 40.

The Ridge Farm church and community mourn the death of Ernest E Lutes. Rev Lutes is remembered for his North Indiana conference record as the service at Ridge Farm and Van Buren included friendship from neighboring towns and Masons. The service featured hymns and a choir solo, with floral tributes, pallbearers named and F and A M of Van Buren in charge.

Metrodists Play Stiff Ball Game

The first game of the season was held on Will Williamson's field in the north part of town. The Methodists played the Indiana pipe line workers from Montpelier, now at Jalapa field. Will Williamson pitched and Mike DePoy caught as the pipe line men lent a practice game to the local team.

Grant county trustees adopt a resolution requiring all township teachers to present a health certificate from a reputable physician. The move was urged by the Grant County Anti Tuberculosis association. A heated discussion concerned a contract clause allowing either party to cancel with fifteen days notice, though no change will be made to the printed forms.

The Advanced Farm club met at Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Nye’s home for its July gathering with singing, devotions, and prayers led by Mrs. Nye and Irvin White. Irvin White spoke on Farm Management, followed by a Bible in the Home talk by Mrs. F A Bradford. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Creviston of Marion.

Montpelier Indiana July 12 1921 Ross M Sills of near Montpelier confessed before a committee of local merchants that he lied about being kidnapped to avoid debts. He admitted leaving home to escape $1500 owed and pledged to repay every cent, seeking forgiveness and to prove himself a worthy man and citizen. The committee urged public understanding, noting his youth and orphan status.
