Ross Sills the well known farmer boy of near Van Buren returned home Friday after a claimed abduction on June 1 by two masked holds ups. He said he was forced to drive to a rail junction east of Peoria and was beaten and robbed before being abandoned near Crescent City Illinois. He later found work and traveled back toward his home arriving June 3 or 4.

Poisoned on canned corn in Breckenridge family case
Madonna Lillian Schweikhardt, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Clay C Schweikhardt of Breckenridge Texas formerly of Van Buren, was poisoned on canned corn Friday June 17 and remains in serious condition under two doctors care. She has lost the use of her right leg but is slowly recovering at this writing.

Self-inflicted death shocks family near Van Buren
Delmer Chappel, 30, of near Van Buren, died Friday afternoon from a heavy calibre rifle shot to the heart. Coroner Herman Thoma investigated. Chappel had suffered illness and despondency, with his family noting long years of pain and a final, peaceful bearing in illness. He leaves father Isaac, mother, one sister Mrs Exr Godfrey, a grandmother, and many relatives.

The Indiana Conference of the Wesleyan Methodist church announced the annual conference and camp meeting in Fairmount Ind. opening Monday evening August 15 and lasting two weeks for the conference sessions through August 20. Dr. Bedford of Marion College will deliver the opening sermon and participate in sessions. John Boller of Gas City was hurt when a ladder he carried along the road was struck by a car on Wednesday June 29. The ladder struck his head, crushing a cheek bone and rendering him unconscious for hours. his parents were called to his bedside and report his condition improved.

Upland Indiana July 6. President and Mrs Taylor invited students faculty and campus residents to a 4th of July picnic at Sliding Banks on the Mississinewa river.
