Howard Wins Damage Suit Over Sewer Dispute

Frank Leas sued E S Howard over a sewer running from Howards residence to Roods Run crossing Leas property. The circuit court ruled in Fred Howards favor, amid fears of closing Roods Run as a town sewer. A state health officer letter urged against such action noting Van Burens health is above average.

Special Solos at Band Concert

The F. and A. M. band will present a concert in the new band hall on Wednesday night July 11. George Richardson will perform a cornet solo and Miss Alta Strange will sing a vocal solo. The program includes March Service, Hartley Hazel Cornet Solo, March Headway, Overture Garden of Eden, Vocal Solo You Tell Her I Stutter, Waltz Bliss Eternal, and March Welcome.

Nye Family Welcomes Guests In New Home Dinner

Mr and Mrs Arthur Nye hosted their first Sunday in their new home with a dinner party. Covers were laid for Mr and Mrs Alva Bucknall Mr and Mrs Floyd Johnson and Mr and Mrs Arthur Nye. Evening callers included Mr and Mrs Everett Lee and gon Von.

William Sparks Dies Suddenly In Hay Field

William Sparks aged 70 collapsed and died while working in a hay field near his home east of town on Monday afternoon. He had been unwell for some time but worked with his son in law Wilbur Anderson and grandson Samuel Sparks before his death. The body was found after he fell forward holding a pitchfork. he breathed only once after arrival of relatives. Sparks, a longtime resident, left a wife who died in 1916 and seven children. Funeral services were held at his home and he was buried in Van Buren cemetery.

Band Stand Painted by Community Effort

The new band stand, funded by local subscriptions, is being painted by Claude Dillon with receiving paint from Burdsal Paint Co of Indianapolis. The donation, enabling two to three coats, is thanked by The News-Eagle on behalf of the band and town supporters.

Young Boys Give Splendid Recital at Methodist Church

Miss Dorothy Duckwall presented two piano pupils James Culbertson and Clare Farr in a Saturday recital at the Methodist Church. Little Miss Mary Kimes read, and Lucile Duckwall played violin. The program featured difficult selections for young students and reflected credit on teachers Margaret De Poy and Duckwall.

Funeral of Mrs Tella Camblin Held on Monday

The Farrville Christian Church funeral honors Stella Camblin born January 26 1873 in Grant county Indiana died June 29 1923 in Marion Indiana at 50. She leaves husband D B Camblin five children and several relatives. She lived in Grant county most of her life except five years in Oklahoma and was active in church and lodge service. The service was July 2 conducted by Rev J O Campbell and interment at Farrville cemetery with many floral tributes.
