Down Come Dry Goods Prices Slump in New York Market

Prices for standard sheetings have fallen about 12.2 percent while buck towels damasks and quilts drop 10 to 20 percent. Auction sale of burlaps ordered by the Textile Alliance yielded prices 3 to 4 cents below asking. Weak new business drives rapid declines in textile production.

William Doyle Named Administrator of Butler Estate

William Doyle has been appointed administrator of the estate of the late Alexander Butler and began duties. Mr. Clawson of Van Atta & Clawson in Marion assisted in inventorying the property. A sale of the personal property is planned with the date set for Tuesday February 18.

The Van Buren Independents defeated the Jonesboro A C s 49 to 19 on Friday night as Jonesboro showed little teamwork and struggled to gain possession. Local games and lineups are listed with players like Mellin Doyle V Melling and others. Creviston misses Friday but will play next week.

Victory Loan in April to be last

Secretary Glass announced one final big war loan drive, the Victory Loan, to run about three weeks in April. The issue will not exceed 6 billion dollars and may be 5 billion. He dismissed plans for two additional bond issues this year and said future bonds would be marketed through banks and financial institutions. Automobile License. Paxton's Drug Store.

Fire damages residence on South Second Street

Ed and Mrs. Boller narrowly saved most belongings from a fire that gutted the Kilander house on South Second Street last Friday morning. The blaze started in a flue and was fought by a quick response from the local fire department. insurance status and rebuild plans for owner Robert Kilander were not learned.

Not Much for a Farmer in Oklahoma 1920s Letter

The writer from Oklahoma recalls snow and cold in late December 1918 and reflects on farming life. He notes cattle as main money makers, few hogs, and presence of mules and horses, with towns Casey and Valley nearby and Maramec a mail hub. He describes school pie suppers and rural mail service, ending with a note about continuation on the last page.

Sunday School Attendance Tops 226 at Van Buren M E Church

The Van Buren M E Church Sunday School reports 226 in attendance last Sunday. The revival of interest includes the banner Williamson class with 39 members and Nellie Kelley’s class second with over twenty. A church repairs plan will add a basement primary department supervised by Daisy Lee and Gladys Kern. The Men’s Bible class led by Prof H H Scott fosters lively discussion. A resolution condemning Sabbath picture shows was passed urging Indiana lawmakers to prohibit such activity on Sundays.

A Van Buren State Bank stockholders meeting praised the bank as at its best in history. Officers remained unchanged with John J. Howard as president and Edward 8. Howard as cashier. Directors listed include S. G. Robinson and J. J. Howard among others. The bank received a certificate showing 190 percent in war work.
